Type a topic. MoneyPrinterTurbo does the rest: it writes the script, picks matching stock footage, adds an AI voiceover, subtitles and background music, and renders a finished video ready for Reels, Shorts or YouTube.
It’s free and open source (MIT licence), with over 130,000 stars on GitHub. Here’s what it does, how to set it up, how to run it at zero cost, and the honest limits you should know before you start.
What MoneyPrinterTurbo does
You give it a topic or keyword, for example “5 habits of successful students”. It then:
- Writes the script using an AI model of your choice (or uses your own script).
- Finds footage that matches each line, from free stock libraries like Pexels and Pixabay, or from your own clips and images.
- Adds a voiceover with text-to-speech, including free voices.
- Adds subtitles, styled however you want (font, colour, size, position, outline).
- Adds background music at the volume you choose.
- Renders the final video in HD.
Video formats:
- Portrait 9:16 (1080×1920) for Reels and Shorts
- Landscape 16:9 (1920×1080) for YouTube
- Square 1:1 (1080×1080)
It can also make several versions of the same video at once, so you can pick the best one.

What it costs
The software itself is free. What you pay for depends on which services you plug in.
| Part | Free option | Paid option |
|---|---|---|
| The software | Free, open source | None |
| Script (AI model) | Ollama on your own computer | OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek and others |
| Footage | Pexels, Pixabay (free API keys) | AI-generated video clips |
| Voiceover | Edge TTS (free, no API key) | ElevenLabs, Azure and others |
| Subtitles | Built in | None |
| Rendering | Your own computer | None |
The zero-cost setup: Ollama for the script + Pexels for footage + Edge TTS for the voice. Everything runs on your computer and you don’t pay anyone.
Where costs creep in: AI-generated video clips. They’re billed per clip, and a batch of videos can add up fast. Stick to stock footage until you know the workflow.
What your computer needs
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 4 cores | 6–8 cores |
| RAM | 4 GB | 8 GB or more |
| GPU | Not needed | 4 GB+ VRAM helps |
It runs on Windows 10+, macOS 11+ and Linux. A GPU isn’t required. It only speeds up the more accurate subtitle mode and batch generation. If you plan to run the AI model locally with Ollama, more RAM helps a lot.
No powerful computer? The project also has a Google Colab notebook (linked on the GitHub page), so you can run it in your browser.
How to install it
Pick the method that matches you.
Option 1: Windows one-click (easiest)
- Go to the project’s Releases page on GitHub: https://github.com/harry0703/MoneyPrinterTurbo/releases
- Under Assets of the latest release, download the .7z file. (Don’t download the “Source code” zip. It doesn’t include the start files.)
- Extract it.
- Double-click update.bat to get the latest version.
- Double-click start.bat. The app opens in your browser.
If the page opens blank, use Chrome or Edge.
Option 2: pip (Windows, Mac, Linux)
If you have Python 3.11 installed, open a terminal and run:
python -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate
python -m pip install mpt
mpt webui
On Windows PowerShell, replace the second line with .venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1.
Careful: the official package is called mpt. A different package named “MoneyPrinterTurbo” on PyPI is made by a third party, not the original developer.
Option 3: Docker
If you use Docker, clone the repo, copy config.example.toml to config.toml, then run:
docker compose -f docker-compose.release.yml up
The app opens at http://127.0.0.1:8501
Make your first video
First, get two things ready and add them in the app’s Basic Settings:
- Pexels API key: free. Sign up at https://www.pexels.com/api/ and copy your key.
- AI model: choose a provider. For a free setup, install Ollama (https://ollama.com), download a model, and pick Ollama in the app. If you already have an API key for OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek or another listed provider, you can use that instead.
Then:
- Enter your topic, for example “How to save money as a college student”. Or paste your own script.
- Pick the language of the script.
- Choose the video format. 9:16 for Reels and Shorts.
- Pick a voice. Edge TTS is free and needs no key. It also has Hindi voices.
- Set subtitles and music. Choose a font, size and position, and set the music volume low so the voice stays clear.
- Click Generate. Your video is saved in the app’s storage folder when it’s done.
Tip: write the script yourself, or at least edit the AI’s draft. The script decides the quality of the whole video.
Honest limits
MoneyPrinterTurbo saves hours, but it isn’t magic. Know these before you start:
- The footage doesn’t always match. Automatic stock search can pick clips that look related but are wrong for your point. Watch the full render before posting.
- It’s bad for accuracy-heavy videos. Software tutorials, product comparisons, news, money or medical advice need real screenshots and footage you choose yourself.
- The AI voice can mispronounce names, acronyms and technical words. Spell tricky words the way they sound in your script.
- Check the music. The project notes that some bundled music comes from YouTube videos. Remove it and use music you have rights to if copyright matters to you.
- Mass-produced videos may not get monetised. YouTube can refuse to pay for repetitive, template-style content. Use this tool to speed up your ideas, not to flood a channel with copies.
- Settings and providers change. The project updates often. If a step here doesn’t match what you see, check the GitHub page.
Who it’s for
- Creators who want to test video ideas quickly before filming properly.
- Students and freelancers learning video automation.
- Small businesses that need simple explainer or tips videos.
- Developers: it also has an API and a command-line mode, so you can plug it into your own workflow.
Quick summary
| What | Detail |
|---|---|

| Price | Free, open source (MIT) |
| Free setup | Ollama + Pexels + Edge TTS |
| Runs on | Windows, Mac, Linux, or Google Colab |
| Easiest install | Windows one-click .7z from Releases |
| Biggest catch | Footage doesn’t always match, so review before posting |
Start with one video on a topic you know well. Edit the script, check the footage, and post it. Once that works, you can make more.
